I Want You To Feel...
confident and empowered in English.
Where you communicate clearly & confidently, leading meetings, earning promotions, and pursuing international career opportunities.
And I believe
You deserve to make more money and enjoy a rewarding career no matter what your mother tongue is.
The fear of being judged or underestimated due to language ability should not prevent you from achieving your professional potential.
That being able to be authentically 'you’ with all that you have to offer is your birth right.
And I believe that you should be able to enjoy daily ‘chit-chat’ and ‘small talk’ confidently in English in a professional environment.

The problem that you face in achieving this…
… is that how English is taught does NOT work for becoming fluent or for use in practical daily situations- especially for the work environment.
It is designed to give you enough information to pass an exam and nothing beyond that.
You need to OBTAIN the confidence to do it.

The English speaking world demands us to communicate clearly and confidently and without a heavy accent but it doesn’t give a clear step by step process of ‘the how to’ achieve this standard.
And it especially doesn’t teach us how to do that within the regular life obligations like a job that needs us to bring our A-game, juggling family needs, endless ‘adulting’ responsibilities.
You need to be taught the skills to do it for ‘real life’ English, and ‘real life’ business, NOT classroom English.
But it is 100% possible.
You CAN form deep relationships with English speaking friends, colleagues, and clients.
You can fully integrate into a new English speaking country that you now call home.
This is why I do the work that I do.

‘You are not required to dive onto subway tracks or become a public hero. Your assignment is the piece of the world you touch. All acts of compassion bring the world closer to bliss’-- by Alan Cohen.
This is a reminder to us all the smallest acts of thoughtfulness, kindness and compassion make a difference and an impact.

The Backstory
My education, and journey with the love of English and learning languages started with the enthusiasm my parents passed onto me.
My parents were both lawyers and ran their own law firm which they raised us in before they moved to the US.
Some of my earliest memories are actually of my younger sister and I sitting on their office floor playing with our farm animal toys, and listening to my parents’ phones ring.
They taught myself and my siblings valuable life lessons.
They raised us in a very honest, open, and unconventional household; showing vulnerability, sharing mistakes, fears and self-doubts, have always been really important.
They taught us the power of self-accountability - how it can take you forward, and that no matter what obstacles you have the power to make change - both for yourself, those around you, and the world.
My parents also taught us the power and wisdom of being an excellent communicator; a skill they helped all of us craft around our dinner table every night!
I had started my formal education in a prestigious private school in London (I wore the whole formal cap, jacket, trousers and tie!) but when I got to the US I was sent to the local school.
We were (and still are) a very close family unit, my 2 siblings (at the time) and I hated being away from them at school, and they would miss us like crazy, so my parents and I would give us extra days off.
I had really good grades and always kept up with my schoolwork, so my school didn’t much mind.

My parents felt conflicted because they felt my school was wasting a lot of time and that it wasn’t teaching me to have curiosity, to enjoy learning, and most importantly it wasn’t teaching me the skill of how to learn and artfully communicate.
With my parents having been raised in the U.K, the idea of homeschooling was not a ‘thing’ (it wasn’t as common), but they decided to take the leap and pull us out of school.
It took a lot of courage because they wouldn’t know until we were older whether this decision would hinder us, especially in our careers and general opportunities.
This came to be severely tested when in 2008 the world economic crash happened.
We lived at the time in Sarasota, Florida, which had one of the worst house market collapse in America after one of the biggest booms.
My parents lost their business and savings. My parents had been self-made millionaires, and we went from being well off to living on $25 a day. We moved from a 3500 square foot house into the smallest of properties of my parent’s former rental portfolio, an old wooden 1,000 square foot house, and my 3 siblings (I had a toddler brother) and I shared one room. My mum was also pregnant with baby number 5.
I can’t really put into words just how BAD things got; we’re talking hunger, damp and moldy living conditions, no air-conditioning (in the 90+ humid Florida heat), broken down water supply...
It didn’t matter to me though at the time, it just seemed like an exciting move to a new house that had carpet, and my sisters already liked to stay in my room most of the time anyway. Being a kid, I had no true grasp of the situation.
Also because of it, they didn’t have as much time for formal teaching, so my siblings and I began to teach ourselves, using printouts and some free learning websites. It wasn’t a perfect curriculum, but we were happy to be at home and helping each other.

As we had more siblings I took on teaching them the full curriculum including French.
I learned the ins and outs of being a good teacher, including creating streamlined systems and making it enjoyable! (Have you ever tried teaching 4 children from 3 years old up to 9 years old?! … you’ve got to keep it fun!)
But I had the realization that I actually loved to teach.
Throughout all of this, our parents kept us focused on the ‘how to’ of learning and thinking, challenging us to debate and use communication artfully.
It was by these very skills that we pulled together as a family and worked to get out of this financially disastrous situation.
Along this journey I saw firsthand the advantage and benefits my parents could achieve from their accents and smart communication abilities.
This lead me to become obsessed with language and mastering other languages.
I started with Spanish, then Russian, then went onto French, and German.
I experienced all the struggles, challenges, and frustrations that come with learning and confidently speaking a new language.
It gave me insights on why people give up, even over their own best interests.

The Hard Truth?
The truth is, whether we like it or not, understanding English confidently and being a clear communicator without a heavy accent is life changing.
It will affect you being able to apply for certain jobs, and being ‘invited’ to interview for certain jobs.
It will affect whether you will be offered certain jobs.
It will affect whether you will be offered promotions, bonuses, exciting projects to work on.
8 out of 10 employers admit to discriminating decisions based on accent.
In many large international companies, employees with good English can expect to make 25-35% more money than those without!
People who speak English confidently and fluently can expect a higher salary (up to 10% – 15%) than those without.

And I will tell you this.
I have experienced (and continue to experience) as have my four adult siblings, first-hand how my accent and my confident use of English passed onto me by my upbringing gave me advantages in business and everyday life… even over my American friends and colleagues.
That’s why I created The English Confidence Coach.
I know that many people can teach English, but what’s missing, and what is far more challenging is to teach the skill and art form of powerful English communication- especially with a focus on business.
The problem is you can NOT memorize a bunch of words and rules and expect to fluently and confidently speak the language.
Why not?
Because by doing that you all you have is knowledge of ‘language as object’.
Meaning you can describe the language, but you can’t use it.
All this leads to is burnout, frustration and losing our motivation to achieve English confidence. So many people give up, not knowing there’s another way.

At English Confidence Coaching, we focus on you and what you need to operate confidently with your English skills within your life and the world around you- with a focus on both a mix of social and business.
